Unlike normal timber, a burr forms when hundreds or even thousands of dormant buds become trapped beneath the bark. Over many decades, the grain twists, folds and swirls around these buds, creating breathtaking patterns that cannot be replicated by man.

Large, stable burrs are exceptionally rare and have been prized for centuries by Britain's finest cabinet makers and luxury furniture craftsmen.

Owning a burr is like owning a sculpture created entirely by nature.

At Tables by Bruce we refer to this as Dragon Scale Burr — our descriptive name for one of the most visually striking forms of burr oak.
